Does becoming successful in life and getting your shit together mean you’ll never feel like shit?
Every peak experience implies a descent, but you needn’t suffer.
Every peak experience implies a descent, but you needn’t suffer.
I almost didn’t get to write this letter. It’s one of those days.
it started out great, got a lot done in the morning and wrapped up with most of what I intended to and then some.
Except for the Monday muse, the weekly letter I committed to several moons ago.
And the great sunny autumn day turned out as one intensive emotional roller coaster.
Feeling with severest intensity all of the feels. Despair. Unease. Second guessing my work.
Feeling like a failure, imposter syndrome kicking in strong.
And, it feels like committing professional suicide.
Slowly inserting the blade in my gut and making the turn.
Harakiri.
Because certainly if I’d want to build a business serving individuals on their life journey by designing and delivering life optimization protocols, I’d need to be at the top of my game.
That's a story.
A big fat lie.
Yes I’ve got my shit together.
And still I get to experience the lower end of the spectrum of human experience.
The inevitable valley after the peak.
This is part of being human.
I’ve never met anyone who wouldn’t still feel all of these feelings.
Regardless of their level of success and achievements in life.
Zero.
The difference however is in how you deal with these lows.
What you find is the ability to process these emotions very fast and shortening the cycle.
Short circuiting the vicious cycle of feeling like shit and then feeling like shit because you felt like shit.
Instead.
You get to acknowledge the emotion.
You get to feel the feeling.
Let it be.
Not making it wrong.
Not labeling it as “bad”.
Not trying to avoid it.
Not trying to escape the feeling and distracting yourself with whatever else.
In fact, getting very clear around how you feel by emptying your thoughts on a piece of paper.
In digital ink or in Gutenberg form if that’s your jam.
You know, like this very letter you’re reading right now.
Thank you for reading my journal.
I feel a lot better now.
Having expressed this.
And I did 3 things with this post.
Showed up for my commitment to my Monday Muse.
Cleared my emotions by a very effective technique called journaling.
Lived up to my promise to you, delivering actionable advice to optimize your human experience.
